The events programme has been put together for this year’s Victorian Week in Ilfracombe – the dates are the 11th – 19th June and the new Artistic Director Mr David Alexander promises it will be a week to remember.
“There’s something for everyone this year. Even if you don’t want to dress up and do the full Victorian thing, you will find there’s lots to amuse visitors and residents”, says Mr Alexander.
Paper programmes can be obtained free (but a small donation would be appreciated) from Reception at Stowford, also from Tourist Information shop at the Landmark or from several High Street shops in Ilfracombe. Or you can go online and peruse it on our new website at www.ilfracombevictoriancelebration.co.uk. Like us on Facebook (Ilfracombe Steampunk Day and Victorian Celebration) or follow us on Twitter (@steampunkIlf).
The event climaxes over the weekend of June 18th and 19th with Mr Alexander’s Gala Weekend, including Steampunk Day on the Sunday. Loads for all the family in this exciting finale to the week. It centres on the Seafront but there will be all sorts happening all through the town.
Dress with at least a slight Victorian twist or risk being fined by the Town Marshalls…
There are several workshops you can join through the week; Stained glass making, flet flower making and ukulele for beginners amongst others. There’s a great open air free ceilidh on the Seafront on Friday night and of course the Fireworks on Saturday. Magic Lantern Shows, parades and our Guest Of Honour Mr Charles Dickens, the world famous writer, will be here in person to read from his works. It is rumoured that Queen Victoria herself (who of course will be in attendance all week) has a special place in her heart for Mr Dickens…
The new logo featuring ‘Victorian Verity’ has been launched along with the Fringe programme, also being featured in a weekly newsletter you can sign up for (email – firstname.lastname@example.org).
The committee are always looking for volunteers to help to make the week memorable and exciting – there is a team of volunteers already signed up and there are some great incentives for those who do offer to help. So if you’re at Stowford in the week of June 11th – 19th (stay for only £60 per week book here online) come along and see for yourself – it’s going to be the best Ilfracombe Victorian celebration in 29 years….
