Growing popularity of Stowford Farm Meadows as a touring caravan and camping site meant that the need for facilities such as a swimming pool became more apparent. Building work began in 1987 and Stowford’s very own Swimming Pool opened ready for the Easter bank holiday in 1988. Ever since, the pool has been popular with caravanners and campers of all ages. Stowford Farm Meadows is still one of the few campsites in North Devon with a swimming pool.
The 22 metre indoor heated swimming pool was open to visitors daily between April and October inclusive, as it is today. However the pool was closed during the winter along with the rest of the site facilities. Once Stowford had acquired ‘Open all Year’ status in 2002, the demand for the swimming pool through the winter months grew and not just from visitors on site. More recently, the swimming pool has become an important facility for the local community with numerous swimming clubs and schools attending throughout the year (read here about how we helped a local swimming club stay afloat in the winter of 2013/2014)
