EXMOOR NATIONAL PARK

Only a few miles away from Stowford is the beautiful Exmoor National Park, with it's awe-inspiring views, ancient history and diverse wildlife.

Exmoor covers a total of 267 square miles within Somerset and Devon and has an amazing variety of landscapes, some of which you can see in the pictures below. In addition, Exmoor National Park was awarded International Dark Sky Reserve status in recognition of its exceptionally starry skies. You can see free-roaming Exmoor ponies which are Britain's oldest native breed of horse, and there are plants here that grow nowhere else in the world! Near Dunster you will find England's tallest tree, and Britain's longest footpath The South West Coast path begins on the Exmoor coast.

While you are here why not try a traditional cream tea in one of Exmoor's historic villages or taste some of local produce in an authentic country pub. There is a fantastic website Visit Exmoor which has loads of information about the area, include the foodie section Eat Exmoor with it's amazing Food Trails, Events and Picnic Spot recommendations. Call into the office at Stowford to pick up a free Exmoor Visitor magazine and ask our friendly staff for directions and recommendations for places to visit.

Below we have a selection of photographs from local photographer Barry Edwards (see his Flickr page here) which we think really capture the essence of Exmoor.
